NYS Driver's License 5-HR Course
Instructors: Joe Wahl & Tim Knowlton

Sign-ups are conducted at 8:00 a.m. at the Gouverneur High School (prior to instruction).  Anyone enrolling in the course must present a valid Learner's permit in order to register for the class.  Participants must stay for the entire class.  The cost of registration is $35.

The classes are held the first Saturday of each month from 8:15 AM to 2:30 PM. Please call GHS at 287-1900 to confirm the date and time for this class.

Pool
Exercise in one of the North Country’s finest pool facilities located right in town! The GHS pool facilities have much to offer all members of the community. The swim times are available throughout the school district's calendar year. Additional programs are being planned (water walking, tot/parent swim, water zumba). If interested, call 287-1900.

Basic Cooking Class
Learn how to make some classic American dinners from scratch! Class will teach participants how to make 1-2 dinners each night (such as meatloaf, lasagna, chicken pot pie, soups etc). If interested, contact Debbie White at Gouverneur Central: white.debra@gcsk12.org

Cost is $7 per night, pre-registration required, limit of 20 people per class. 1-2 lucky attendees will take the meal home! Once contacted, a list of 15 meals will be sent for voting. Classes begin Wednesday, May 14, and continue on Wednesdays as long as interest remains.

Depending upon interest, there could be a 3:15 pm class start time, and another at 5pm. Indicate which you prefer. Class will be taught in room 126r, in the Family & Consumer Science room (across from the Auditorium).
Scuba
Instructors: Chris Letham, The Dive Shop

Discover Diving
This is a 1 day course that's been offered in the past to introduce participants to scuba diving. If interested contact Deep Down Divers at 287-0959.

Open Water Scuba:
Interested in discovering the world below the water? This structured program will help you become a confident entry level diver in open water.

A free demonstration will be presented for all who attend. Further information will be available addressing new fall programs.

All new karate and self-defense classes are starting at the East Side School. Lessons are taught Tuesdays from 6-7:30 pm throughout the school year. The classes are offered through the Continuing Education Program and are open to students in grades 7-12 as well as adults. A introductory class is being presented on Tuesday, Sept. 11, for all interest students in the Middle and High School grades. If you are not involved in a fall sport, this is an excellent program for staying in shape and developing skills in overall safety, balance, concentration, and fitness. Visit the East Side Class Tuesday and give the workout a try. Classes are always energizing and challenging!

Learn the art of karate from a highly experienced martial artist. Lessons emphasize personal safety, self-discipline, fitness, and respect. Beginners and individuals with previous training are all welcome to attend classes. Karate is a highly motivating activity that improves coordination, increases strength and flexibility, and allows a person to gain confidence in many areas of self-defense. Uniforms and training manuals are available through the class instructor.

Academics are stressed and reviewed in all youth programs.

Adult Fitness - GCS Fitness Center [Use it or Lose it!]

As we age, most people begin to lose muscle mass after the age of thirty and bone density after the age of forty.

Cost: $50
Time: 6-7:30pm
15 sessions over the course fo 8 weeks

Want to feel better, have more energy and improve your quality of life? Exercise and physical activity are a great way to gain health benefits and have fun! If you're looking to get started on a routine, tone your muscles, improve flexibility or meet specific fitness goals check out evening fitness at the GHS Fitness Center.
Come work out at your own pace.
Bring a friend to work out with you.

  • 1 recumbent bike

  • step boxes
