Lauren French grew up in Gouverneur, New York and graduated with the class of 1979. She graduated from St. Lawrence University for both her Bachelor's degree in Biology and Geology and Master’s degree in Education. She also attained her Certificate in Advanced Studies from St. Lawrence University. She taught for 14 years at Gouverneur High School and then accepted the position as Middle School Principal. In 2012, she was appointed as the Superintendent.
Lauren lives with her husband, Ray, in an 1823 brick house that was known as the Benjamin Smith House of Little Bow. Their three sons, Jonathan, Nathan and Lee and step-son Adam all live in Central New York or Gouverneur. Outside of school they enjoy a hobby farm and raise bees along with a vegetable and flower gardens. Lauren serves on the Boards of Gouverneur Hospital, Gouverneur Hospital Auxiliary, Gouverneur Foundation, and the Northern Lights Orchestra and is a member of Gouverneur Rotary. She previously served on the Board of Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
Donna Runner Assistant Superintendent
Donna Runner is a lifelong educator having worked as teacher, academic coach, principal, assistant superintendent and adjunct professor. She is a graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University, Arcadia University and California University of Pennsylvania and is currently a doctoral student at Drexel University. Mrs. Runner is married to Dr. Leon Runner, pastor of the Lowville Baptist Church. They have one son who currently resides with his wife in Nottingham, England. Mrs. Runner's personal interests include reading, karate and outdoor sports.
Cory Wood Building Principal High School
Cory Wood was appointed principal of Gouverneur High School in June 2012. He has been an educator for the past 15 years beginning his teaching career as a High School History teacher at Watertown High School. In 2008 he left Watertown to begin his career in administration at Indian River Middle School. At the end of his first year he was transferred to Indian River High School as the Assistant Principal. In 2012 he was hired in his current position of High School Principal of GHS, his Alma Mater. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1988. He possesses degrees in History, Education and School Administration and Leadership. He resides in Gouverneur with his wife and two children.

Vicki started her career at Gouverneur Central School District as a music teacher in 1987. Her specialty was string education and she oversaw the orchestra program until 1998, when she became the MS/HS Assistant Principal for Gouverneur. In 1999, she was hired as the Fowler Elementary School Principal. She served for 5 years at Fowler until she moved to East Side Elementary School to assume the role as principal. Her pride and passion is working with her staff and parents to nurture our students to learn, grow, and become young, responsible citizens in a path that will bring happiness, life-long learning, and prosperity for them and for their future!
Charity Zawatski Building Principal West Side Elementary
Charity became a part of Gouverneur Central in 2010. Originally from the North Country, she resides in Brownville with her Great Dane, Jazmine. She enjoys spending time with Scott and his daughter, kayaking, watching hockey, and walking with Jazmine. She likes to travel to explore new places and cultures. She is passionate about being trying new things, helping others, and giving back to the community.
Maria Mesires Assistant Principal High School
Maria started her educational career as a science teacher at Case Middle School in Watertown, NY. After twelve years in the district, she moved to the Indian River School District to work as an elementary Science Coach while she finished her Educational Administrative degree through Stony Brook. Maria has been an adjunct instructor at Jefferson Community College and currently sits on the Board of Education for Watertown. She enjoys reading, gardening, and yoga. Maria started in Gouverneur in October 2016.
Joshua Stamp Assistant Principal Middle School
Joshua Stamp grew up on a small dairy farm in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy and attended Houghton College for both his Bachelors and Master’s degree. He taught for one year at Johnstown High School and then moved to Northern New York to accept a teaching job at Calcium Primary School in the Indian River School district where he taught for 7 years. After completing a degree in Educational Leadership from Stony Brook University he entered school administration at Gouverneur High School in March of 2014.
Mr. Stamp lives outside Croghan, NY in a house he and his wife built. Outside of school he makes maple syrup and assists his in-laws in operating their dairy farm. He is active in his church and enjoys a variety of hobbies with his wife and son.
Robyn Knowlton CSE Chairperson
Robyn has 25 years of experience in the field of Special Education as a School Psychologist and, most recently as the CSE/CPSE/504 Chairperson for the Gouverneur School District. She obtained her B.A. in Communication Studies and Psychology from SUNY Oswego in 1988 and her M.A. in School Psychology from St. Lawrence University in 1990.
